A Scandal continues in Bridgewater Township
It’s scandalous what the town council is costing us!!!
- Cost overruns and change orders on new municipal complex (excess of one million dollars)
- Misappropriations of Open Space funds
- Mayor Flannery stated a savings of $450,000 could be realized if we had used shared services (Star Ledger, Sept. 10, 2010).
- Council voted against exploring shared services to save township funds – Council member Christine Henderson Rose voted “no” to an exploration of shared services.
THIS IS A QUALITY OF LIFE ISSUE FOR ALL
- Streets and roads need repair
- Flooding and drainage issues throughout various portions of the town resulting in home and property damage
- No master plan to restrict placement of cell towers in residential areas – causing hardship and stress on homeowners
- Bad decisions that affect property values and quality of life for too many of the township’s homeowners
YOU CAN NOT AFFORD THIS COUNCIL ANYMORE!!
- Bought a fire engine for Branchburg Township for the amount of $375,000
- Paying health benefits and pension benefits for part-time Council members in addition to a $7000 salary
- Candidate JOHN ROONEY would decline these benefits!
TAXES, TAXES, TAXES
STOP THE ABUSE OF OPEN SPACE FUNDS
The township council paid a farmer half a million dollars from Bridgewater’s open Space Trust Fund to prevent development on his property. Then it voted to allow him to build cell phone towers on the land, acting on dubious legal advice from the same law firm that had represented the farmer in the initial transaction.
STOP WASTEFUL SPENDING
Poor planning led to millions of dollars in cost overruns in the construction of the Municipal Building. Contractors were not penalized for missing completion deadlines, leading to numerous change orders and a sharp increase in costs.
STOP COSTLY PERKS FOR PART-TIME COUNCIL MEMBERS
Did you know that Bridgewater taxpayers pay for full health benefits for members of the Township Council? It is rare and unnecessary for a town to do this. With citizens struggling to keep their homes and send their children to college, council members should not be collecting full-time benefits for part-time work.
